What Does Snorkeling in Okinawa Cost? Comparing a ¥3,000 Tour and a ¥7,000 One, Line by Line
Snorkeling tours here start around ¥3,000 per person and run to ¥12,000 for a private one. Why does the same "Blue Cave snorkeling" vary that much? Here is what is inside each price and what is not, so you can compare the total rather than the headline.
The price is mostly decided by shared versus private
Line up the Blue Cave tours and the prices fall into two bands: ¥3,000–5,000 per person for a shared group, ¥6,000–12,000 for a fully private one. Nearly all of that gap is how many people one guide is watching. A shared tour may put ten or more with a single guide; a private one takes your group alone. The cheap tour is not cutting corners — it is dividing the cost across heads. Neither is wrong, and in practice the choice comes down to whether you can move at someone else’s pace.
Count what the headline price leaves out
This is the heart of it. Cheap headline prices often come with things you pay for on the day. Look at the actual listings and you find a facility fee of about ¥500 for the shower and changing room, parking at ¥300 an hour, photo data as a paid add-on, and some gear charged separately. A ¥3,500 tour plus a ¥500 facility fee plus ¥2,000 for photos is really ¥6,000. Compare on the total: headline plus on-the-day plus photos. Do that and the gap narrows a long way.
Here is our own price, broken out
So that you can compare, here is ours in full. Snorkeling in Onna is ¥6,000 per person for three or more, the Blue Cave ¥7,000, and children from ¥4,000–5,000. That covers hotel transfers, all the gear including the wetsuit, the fish feeding, one group per tour, and your photo and video data. There is nothing extra to pay on the day — the one exception is the Blue Cave, where the shower and changing facilities on site charge a fee. One or two people costs more per head, but at three and up it is at the cheaper end for a private tour. If you are weighing us against a cheaper listing, convert both to a total and lay them side by side.
