Taiwan's Mid-Autumn and National Day Holidays: Okinawa's Autumn Sea, 1.5 Hours Away

Taiwan has two long weekends back to back in 2026: a four-day Mid-Autumn break (Sep 25–28) and a three-day National Day weekend (Oct 9–11). Okinawa is about 1.5 hours from Taipei or Kaohsiung by direct flight, and the water is still 26–27°C in October. Here is how to make the most of a sea you can still swim in on a family autumn trip.

Two autumn long weekends: Mid-Autumn (Sep 25–28) and National Day (Oct 9–11)

Taiwan's 2026 calendar has a four-day Mid-Autumn break from Mid-Autumn Festival (Sep 25) through Teachers' Day (Sep 28), and a three-day National Day weekend, Oct 9–11, with Friday the 9th given as a substitute for Saturday the 10th. Okinawa is about 1.5 hours from Taipei or Kaohsiung by direct flight — leave on a Friday morning and you can be in the water that afternoon. In late September and October the sea is still around 26–27°C. At the height of the autumn travel season, Okinawa gives you one more summer, just a short hop away.

Oct 9–11 overlaps Japan and Korea — Mid-Autumn is easier to book

Of the two, October 9–11 also coincides with Korea's Hangul Day weekend and Japan's long weekend (Oct 10–12), making it one of Okinawa's busiest weekends of the year. Tours fill quickly, so if you are coming for National Day, book early. The Mid-Autumn break (Sep 25–28) does not overlap a Japanese holiday, so it is comparatively easy to book. We welcome same-day and next-day bookings, so feel free to ask even at the last minute.

Family-friendly: from age 3, one flat rate for kids

Family-friendly: from age 3, one flat rate for kids

Guests from Taiwan very often travel as families or with relatives. We take children from age 3, and everyone aged 3–12 pays one flat rate (¥4,000 for snorkeling, ¥5,000 for the Blue Cave or sea turtles). Non-swimmers can enjoy it fully just by floating in a life jacket. Every tour is fully private, up to six people per group, so we match the pace of everyone from grandparents to small children. Photo data is free (video free for a limited time too), so you go home with a family shot that has everyone in it.

Language worries, and how to book

Language worries, and how to book

Worried about not speaking Japanese? No need. Bookings and questions are open 24/7 via LINE or the contact form, and consultations in Chinese (Traditional) via translation are welcome. On the day we explain with photos and gestures. If you tell us ① your preferred date ② the number of people and children's ages ③ your hotel ④ whether everyone can swim, we can confirm availability and pickup right away. Staying in Naha, we recommend Naha sea-turtle snorkeling; staying in central Okinawa, the Blue Cave. If the sea is too rough we offer a new date, or a full refund if that will not work.
