Can You Snorkel on Your Arrival or Departure Day in Okinawa? How to Fit the Sea Around Your Flights

On a two-night autumn trip it can feel like you only get one real day for the sea. In fact, with the right planning you can snorkel on the afternoon you arrive or the morning you leave. Here is how the timing works with your flights, why staying in Naha helps, and how the rules before boarding differ from scuba diving.

Arrival afternoons and departure mornings are usable time

Arrival afternoons and departure mornings are usable time

On a two-night trip, writing off your arrival and departure days as travel-only is a waste. Our tours take about 3–4 hours including transport, so half a day is enough. As a rule of thumb: on arrival day, a morning flight means you can join an afternoon tour; on your last day, an evening flight means you can join a morning tour. Use both and you can be in the sea on all three days. With hotel pickup included, you do not have to juggle rental-car pickup and return times either.

For your last day, Naha hotel plus sea turtles is the best combination

If you want the sea on your last day, the most efficient combination is staying in Naha and joining Naha sea-turtle snorkeling. Naha hotels are close to the airport, so the gap between getting back to your hotel and heading for your flight stays short. Central Okinawa — the Blue Cave area — is about an hour from Naha by car, so a last-day tour there works best when your flight leaves later. Work backwards so you reach the airport roughly an hour before a domestic departure, or two hours before an international one. Tell us your flight time when you book and we will suggest a start time that gets you there.

Flying the same day: how it differs from scuba

Flying the same day: how it differs from scuba

"Is it OK to fly on the same day after being in the sea?" we are often asked. Scuba divers breathe compressed air from a tank, which is why they are advised not to fly for a period after diving. Snorkeling is just normal breathing at the surface, so that rule essentially does not apply. Skin diving also uses no compressed air — you simply hold your breath — but repeated deep dives are tiring, so keep it moderate on a flight day. If you are unsure, the easy option is to snorkel on flight days and save skin diving for earlier in the trip. If your ears feel off, do not push it.

Luggage, showers and clothes: joining after check-out

Luggage, showers and clothes: joining after check-out

If you join on your last day, leave your luggage at the hotel after check-out — most hotels will hold it for you. After the tour you can shower and change in our private changing tent and head straight on (on the Blue Cave plan, the on-site facility showers are used, for a fee). Pack a full change of clothes, a large towel and a bag for your wet swimsuit in a small day bag. Mask, fins and life jacket are free rentals, so there is no need to squeeze sea gear into your suitcase. Arrival-day and departure-day bookings are open 24/7 via LINE or the contact form — just send us your flight times.
