October 2026 Long Weekend (Oct 10–12): Okinawa's Sea Is Still Warm — Which Days Get Busy and How to Book
October 2026 has a three-day weekend from Saturday the 10th to Monday the 12th (Sports Day). The water is still 26–27°C and typhoons are thinning out — but this weekend also overlaps holidays in Korea and Taiwan, so how easy it is to book varies a lot by day. Here is which days fill up, which to aim for, and how to plan the three days.
The October long weekend: Sat Oct 10 to Mon Oct 12
The October 2026 long weekend runs Saturday October 10 to Monday October 12 (Sports Day). With Silver Week over, it is one of the few long weekends left this year. Okinawa's sea is still in summer mode: October water typically sits around 26–27°C, so a swimsuit and life jacket are all you need. Typhoon approaches drop off compared with September, which lowers the risk of taking the time off only to miss the water. If you missed the summer holidays and Silver Week, this is your last chance this year at a summer sea.
Oct 10–11 overlaps holidays abroad — aim for the 12th, or arrive early
One thing to watch: October 9–11 also overlaps long weekends in Korea (Hangul Day) and Taiwan (National Day). Okinawa is a short direct flight from both, so travellers from home and abroad arrive all at once. Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th are the days tours fill fastest. Two days to aim for instead: ① Monday the 12th, the last day — many people are heading home, so morning slots can be easier to get. ② Take Friday the 9th off and arrive a day early — the Friday before the Japanese long weekend is comparatively quiet, in the water and for bookings. If neither works, just lock in the date first and sort out the time and plan with us later.
Planning the three days: put the sea on day one or two
For a three-day trip, put the sea on day one or day two, so that if wind or waves cancel it, you can still reschedule within the weekend. Aim for the morning: calmer water on most days, and the afternoon stays free for sightseeing and shopping. As a guide to plans: for families, snorkeling in Onna — ¥6,000 per adult for three or more, and a flat ¥4,000 for every child aged 3–12. If you want one unmistakably Okinawan view, choose the Blue Cave; if you are staying in Naha, Naha sea-turtle snorkeling (pickup from Naha hotels) is the easiest fit.
Book the date first — and what happens in bad weather
Long-weekend bookings are first come, first served. Even if your plans are not set, tell us the date and headcount and we can hold it as a provisional booking, confirmed once payment comes through. When you get in touch, including ① your preferred date (and a backup) ② the number of people and children's ages ③ your hotel ④ whether everyone can swim makes things quick. If conditions exceed our safety limits we cancel and offer a new date, or a full refund if that will not work. Emerald Reef is fully private, with free hotel pickup, free mask/fins/life jacket, and free photo data (video free for a limited time). LINE and the contact form are open 24/7.
